Greed Roll – 100 for [Epic Quotes]. You Recieve loot [Epic Quotes.]

Thursday, February 5th, 2009

I’m going to expand the quotes a bit this week : Funny ones can be a bit hit or miss, so, I’m going to include basically anything I like. It can be funny, it can be informative, it can be thought provoking. If you say something clever, look out for it here! Now that I’m so addicted to twitter, twits shall also be making an appearance.

You’ll also notice (or, you will if you were paying attention to the first two) that this is a day earlier than normal. Recently, me and my friends have been doing one of the local pub quizzes weekly – on a Thursday night. Thus, I won’t be playing for most of Thursday nights, so I decided that scheduling my quote posts for Thursday Evenings was the best plan of action.

Ohh, that pub quiz. We’ll win one of these days! Unfailingly, we are first in the first round, but by the last round, are either in the middle, or near the bottom.

A small, but sweet, selection of loot from the past two weeks of blogging, twittering and commenting:

-

“…10%, actually, when you count my Chintacle Radar…”

~ Rilgon, commenting this post at The Angry Butterfly, comment #8.

It’s a well known fact that one of the many advantages Draenei have over every other inferior race in existence (I’m looking at BE’s like Klinderas especially -grin-) is a 1% bonus to hit chance, which Rilgon seems to believe comes from his facial tentacles. That doesn’t explain how my tentacle-less Draenei recieves the same bonus!

-

“Ain’t nuthin’ like the feeling of working up a righteous sweat at the forge. Well, except fer slaughtering evil unarmed peaceful villagers fer thems what’s gonna pay you. And listening ta the wail of despair a rogue lets out when he realizes yer overpower’s procced and everything he’s got’s on cooldown. Oh, and that quick burn ya get when flames come out of Alexstrasza’s mouth ’cause she’s just reached her special moment.”

- Ratshag, at Need More Rage.

I have rectified the grevious lack of Ratshag, hurrah! -Ahem- A burn during Alex’s special moment? With an orc? That… that is an intensely disturbing image. I don’t want my minds eye anymore! -weeps-

-

“I suddenly got an image in my head, which I couldn’t rid myself of. It was the image of me building a sandcastle in the waterline by the sea. We make those constructions with the full knowledge that it will be “wasted work”. If you’re lucky it may stand up for an hour, at the most. But the result isn’t what interests you when you build it. You build it because you love the feeling of the wet sand in your hands, because you enjoy seeing the image in your head getting alive, however shortly. It will be washed away by the water, but that doesn’t matter. No one can ever steal your memories of that lovely afternoon by the sea when you and a friend enjoyed yourself building a sandcastle.”

~Larísa, at The Pink Pigtail Inn.

So, here’s the first quote that isn’t funny. I only recently found Larísa’s Blog, but so far it’s been a great read, because of posts like this. Responding to a commenter who discussed the negative impact WoW can have on your life, Larísa posted the above paragraph, which is a wonderful way to describe the often “wasted” time spent in game – such as when a new expansion hits, and all the gear you worked hard for loses all it’s value – that doesn’t change the fact you had fun getting it. (At least, I hope you did!)

If you haven’t already (Larísa’s readership is certainly greater than mine, and the post was linked in the most recent TNB, so you should have!), I strongly advise reading the entire post, and indeed, the rest of her entries. There’s a lot of thought provoking stuff in there.

-

“SEVEN: ‘Though shall used your ranged weapons to deal death.  Not your sword, not your polearm, and not your kitchen knife.  I mean it.’”

~Klinderas, at Slow Wolf.

Melee weapons is for FITE! Urgh, this reminds me of the Hunter I ran into in STV on my Druid a while back. His pet didn’t seem to have growl on, and no matter how many times I told him, he insisted on meleeing! Slowest.Tiger.Kills.Ever.

-

OneAmongMany @Faulsey Well, everyone’s tired, then got hungry, now me and the “irra’s” are going to soap wrestle because we’re irish, we dont miss old SV”

~Cait, via twitter.

Geeky male WoW bloggers REJOICE! Oh, wait a minute…

“Nassira This just in : three girls, one ring, free beer – and you’re not invited.”

Alas… It was not to be.

-

That’s all for this week. Hope you enjoyed ‘em! As per usual, suggestions on how to improve these or even submissions for inclusion in next weeks are more than welcome in the comments!

Quotes of the Week for 17th-23rd January

Friday, January 23rd, 2009

Last weeks Pilot seemed fairly successful, my regular commenters enjoyed it, so I’ve plucked up the courage to commission a full season!

Yikes, that was dire.

Decided to continue on with the Friday evening postings – more convenient to just keep it on the same day as the original.

Anyway, time to cut the crap : this weeks post is free of the huge walls of mumbo jumbo from last week! At least, the top of the post is!

Faulsey’s Quotes of the week for Saturday 17th to Friday 23rd January.

I’m sort of cheating this week: A number of quotes are taken from the same blogs as last week. They aren’t from the same people, but whereas last week the list of blogs on my google homepage skyrocketed, this week I don’t think I added any new ones at all! I’ll fix that next week, I promise! -panics- I  kinda feel there were less funnies this week, due to the wonderful mess that is patch 3.0.8. (P.S. Blizz, WTB Aspects actually off the GCD and a working Glyph of Mend Pet.)

-

“I thought it was cuz I had female bits? Aw shucks, I wore that lingerie for nothing! (

~Nassira, commenting on this post at Slow Wolf.

Nassira was the featured Marksman Hunter on BRK’s most recent Podcast, prompting Klinderas to write a post with a formula for getting onto his show, and Nassira was most dissapointed to discover that it was not her femininity that got her onto the show… Or was it? -shifty eyes-

-

“My subscription expires in a couple of days, maybe I’ll let it sit for a week or something, and play other g-

ATTENTION READERS.

THE BLOGGER HAS SUFFERED A FATAL MALFUNCTION.

PLEASE DO NOT BE ALARMED.

THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE.

WE ARE WORKING TO RESOLVE IT AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.”

~ Euripides, at Critical QQ.

Oh, Euripides – what a jester you are. Play… other… games? What is this nonsense!? Even your blog rejects the notion!

-

“I wish to be Corporal Punishment, chief administer of Spankings. I’ve warmed up my paddle. Just point me to the nearest Blizzard executive and I shall commence applying a vigorous swatting to his underendowed posterior.”

~ Celexxa, commenting this post at BRK. (Comment 11)

Really, not much to say about this one, except that it’s a rather disturbing image. I mean, intensely.

-

“P.S. If I may be so bold as to add in one other tiny request – I do think it is quite improper for a ranking military officer to be conducting business wearing only his undershorts. I am aware that the mausoleum was crawling with undead and he was in a stressful situation, but wandering around without pants truly is a bit much.”

~ Vonya, at Egotistical Priest.

I’m sure you know the NPC in question – in a crypt in Dragonblight. I think this is a fair point – aside from the cultural faux pas, this is a dusty, damp mausoleum, in the biting cold of Northrend. There are some places you just really, really do not want frostbite. -coughs meaningfuly-

-

I’m going to guess, as a Tauren, that we’ll simply use a convenient punting gnome… All Taurens have a large supply of gnomes inside their hammerspace. Just in case they are needed.”

~ Karilyn, with regards to removing the Simple Wood requirement for cooking fires, commenting this post at WoW Insider. (What? It’s a blog! It counts!)

Ah, I was beginning to wonder why I was seeing fewer and fewer Gnomes around these days, though this does beg the question, why not just keep some simple wood in ones Hammerspace? Tauren are supposed to be the most humane of the Horde races! Balance is not preserved by wiping the Gnome race out, by using them as fuel for fires!

-

This is still very much in it’s early stages, so I’m going to be asking much the same of you, the reader, as I did last week: Gief meh teh feedbax!

Do you like the idea?

Do you have suggestions for how to improve it?

Should I take submissions from readers, if they find a good phrase on a blog I don’t personally read?

Should I limit it to, say, the top five, or top ten of my favourite quotes for the week?

Do you, personally, object to parts of your Blog Entries, or your comments, being posted on my blog? (If so, what are you doing blogging? -grin-)

Personal commentary? Yay or nay? (Personally, I feel that without commentary, it’s just an exercise in copy/pasting and italicising – which isn’t particularly interesting for me as a writer or your as a reader.)

-

I think I should try and give these proper titles – problem is, unless a lot of the quotes are linked by a common theme, a witty title may not quite fit. We’ll see.

I also feel like I’m committing a grevious sin by not having any Ratshag in there – but his last Maurice post was just too late for me to include then, too early to include now, and while his Palintera entry was amusing, there’s nothing that works on it’s own as a little snippet – you need the whole thing!

So, I’ve had this idea: Quotes of the Week!

Friday, January 16th, 2009

Warning: Long post is LOOOOONG! If this becomes a regular thing, I promise it won’t be as long – it’s so long because I have to explain the premise!

This may well have been done before…

If it has, I will be exceptionally gutted, and will probably shed a little tear…

But an idea occurred to me as I was making the rounds on blogs a few days ago, and I found some things that really made me laugh… I thought “Hey, I know some bloggers do certain things on certain days*, and I’m finding some real gems in these blogs… why not take my favourite snippets from the bloggosphere every week, and highlight them?”

Now, I really like this idea… so I’m going to charge ahead and make a list of this weeks quotes. Quotes will be taken either from actual entries, or from comments. Name links to the exact entry or comment (if I can get a comment link), which will be followed by a link to the blog which the piece was found on. I’m toying with the idea of including personal commentry on each quote, so I’m going to give that a try too.

Aside from collecting a weeks worth of humourous bits and pieces into one place, this could also be a way of introducing people to blogs they may not have read before.

On with the show! I hope you like it!

Faulsey’s “Quotes of the Week” for Saturday 10th January to Friday 16th.

This first week I have a sort of all-star “cast”, as it were, of quotes. The majority of them are from big (well, I consider them big) blogs, and I’m sure most of you will have seen ‘em – I’m just testing the format.

“And now she’s discipline specced, so I can’t even just claim that holy priests have it easy. Obviously there is some racism involved. Maybe it’s the horns or the tail or something. I don’t have the details. All I can picture is her sort of buffing her nails while Sartharion goes all berserk on a bunch of Alliance kids, and when she glances up, they are magically healed and shielded and EVERYTHING IS FINE.”

~ Hannelore, at The Egotistical Priest, Monday, January 12th.

I was introduced to The Ego blog via the TNB, so I must admit I’ve not read much of it yet, but I am loving Hannelore’s ranting posts! The rest of the entry is funny, too, but the idea of Vonya as some sort of miracle healer amused me greatly.

-

“Well Steady Shot, it’s been a long ride, but it’s just not working out. You’re bein’ nerfed, and you will no longer be a key I have to unthinkingly pound. I caught up with an old friend lately. His name is Arcane Shot. He took me out to dinner the other night in Dalaran. He’s romantic and funny and you, Steady Shot, are just going to have to be his backup because it’s over between us.”

~ Pike, at Aspect of the Hare, Tuesday, 13th January.

As a BM Hunter myself, the Nerf to steady shot obviously concerns me. I’ve been relatively optimistic about the nerfs overall, but no where near as optimistic as Pike, who posted this amusing “break up” style letter, addressed to SS itself.

-

“I gotta say, your comment reached official forum levels of quality. Given that you recently quit the game anyway, you’re hardly my target audience :( sorry”

~ Siha, (Comment # 11) at Banana Shoulders, Tuesday, 13th January.

Siha’s post about PvE difficulty sparked quite a response, most agreeing with her, but with a few dissenting views here and there. The above comment was a reply to a particularly cheeky commenter, imitating their style. I found this one amusing, because I wholeheartedly agreed with Siha’s article, and because I’m one of those disgustingly nice people that can’t stand to see people being offensive over the Internet, as it’s a pretty pointless endeavour.

-

“Yo, BRK, this is Da King!”

“Yo, King! What’s shakin’?”

“Horde in meh crib. You got a brotha-dwarf’s back?”

“Foshizlle, King-baby. We’ll kill the healers at the back and let you beat the rest down.”

“That’s the way dwarves play. You’re golden; come back and see me. I’ve got a daughter around here somewhere…”

Again, Mrs BRK knows nothing, capice?’

~ BRK, at (do I really need to link him?) BigRedKitty, Tuesday, January 13th.

Quite simply: I rofl’d my waffle. Particularly because Mrs BRK is a redhead. I come from a family of redheads (though I’m not one myself, my brother got my mother’s hair), so I know full well that hell hath no fury like an angry redhead! Oh, BRK, if she were ever to find out. . .

That, and I myself subscribe to the “Kill the healer, kill the raid” tactic. I know, I know, it’s not nice, they’re only going for a war bear… But you should have seen the horde crowd we drew in Undercity. Oh, you hordies have it coming… -cackles-

-

“It’s not a bad thing that your skin is oddly coloured though! My skin is nice and peachy.  Just because your skin colour is green, blue, or rotting, doesn’t mean you aren’t pretty like me.  Okay, I’m just kidding, nothing can be as pretty as I am.  Do you see my perfectly coiffed hair?

/flourish”

~ Klinderas, at Slow Wolf, January 14th.

I had to post this one, because it is a perfect example of Blood Elf racism. Look, we’re sorry that you guys are totally addicted to mana, and, really, you have a pretty sickly body shape, and we understand that you have to make up for it by spending 5 hours in front a mirror every day! Plus, he knows it’s a lie anyway. Everyone knows male Draenei are HAWTSTUFF, AMIRITE? /flex

-

Forget those hours wiping on bosses, raiding for five to six days a week. Forget farming until your virtual fingers fall off, no screw all that…

Want to know what’s hardcore?

Raiding for three hours with toilet paper up your nose because you are having continuous nosebleeds.

That is what we call heroic sacrifice”

~Breana (thanks to her Guildie, Fitz), at Gun Lovin’ Dwarf Chick, Thursday, January 15th.

Let’s face it – we’d all do that, if it came to it. The mental image of someone sitting at the PC, Toilet Paper artfully arranged to both stop the flow of blood, and not obsctruct their headset mic is sheer win.

-

If people like this idea, I’ll continue it. For now, I’m going to be doing it on a Friday or Saturday night – the week will be considered beginning the day after I make the posts.

Feedback, feedback, and more feedback, please!

Do you like the idea?

Do you have suggestions for how to improve it?

When should I schedule it for?

Should I take submissions from readers, if they find a good phrase on a blog I don’t personally read?

Should I limit it to, say, the top five, or top ten of my favourite quotes for the week?

Do you, personally, object to parts of your Blog Entries, or your comments, being posted on my blog? (If so, what are you doing blogging? -grin-)

Personal commentary? Yay or nay? (Personally, I feel that without commentary, it’s just an exercise in copy/pasting and italicising – which isn’t particularly interesting for me as a writer or your as a reader.)

* The one that immediately comes to mind is the “Friday Five” over at Too Many Annas. Friday is a good day to post such things, I feel, but I don’t want to overlap with her! This first entry is being pushed out on Friday as I don’t want to wait, hah!
